Making Wishes Come True

On Friday, December 9, Mainely Tubs had the privilege of helping make a child’s wish come true by supporting Make-A-Wish Maine with our second hot tub donation.

Our wish recipient, Alia is a non-verbal 12-year-old with a neurological condition living with her parents and siblings in Bethel.

Alia’s happy place has always been the water. Her family used to make trips to the lake every summer but had to stop because the stimulation would cause Alia to seize. Her family decided on a hot tub because in addition to her love of water, the warmth of the tub would provide a therapeutic benefit for her muscles year-round.

This wish was months in the making with multiple moving parts as Alia is wheelchair bound and needed a medically necessary lift. After working with multiple vendors to grant this wish, a lift was sourced, a concrete pad was poured, the lift was assembled, our tub was delivered, and electricity was wired. We also had the special help of one of our Service Technicians, Owen, who was a resource to the family and instrumental as a touch point throughout the making of this wish.

On wish day, three of our employees were able to attend the reveal and watch Alia’s face light up in excitement as she turned the corner and saw her hot tub for the very first time! Squealing and wiggling in anticipation from her wheelchair our team gladly joined in to help Alia get into her new hot tub!

As Alia’s mom rocked her in the tub, she beamed from ear to ear excited as could be! Her medical team has already begun developing water therapy plans and are eager to incorporate water time into her weekly PT/OT sessions.

It was truly a heartwarming experience to see firsthand how much good this hot tub is going to do for this young girl.  Thank you to the Make-A-Wish team for allowing us to be a part of such a special day in this family’s life!

Other shout outs for helping make this wish achievable go to in-kind supporters including Wireless Construction, Hardscapes of Maine, Flanders Electric, Ross Construction, AquaCreek Products, and wish granters Elaine Drew and Kim Hackett.
